Entry Requirements

At the moment, as US citizen you won’t need a visa if your stay is no longer than 90 days. You will, however, need a valid passport. As citizen of Great Britain you will need to apply for a tourist visa. For the latest information it’s best you inform yourself (also if you’re not from US/ GB) on the official website of the Mongolian immigration office: http://consul.mn/eng/index.php

There are no compulsory vaccinations.

Communication

Phone: You can make an international telephone call at every village or small town. Prices are calculated per minute.

Mobile phone: In Ulaanbaatar and almost every rural centre, mobile communication is possible.

Internet: There are hotels and internet cafés in Ulaanbaatar where you can have access to the internet.

In the countryside itself communication is severely limited.

Transport

Flight: We will book your flight for you with MIAT, the official Mongolian carrier. (http://www.miat.com/index.php?lang=en)

The Mongolian currency is called Tugrug. As second currency you can use USD, but only in bigger cities. There are many exchange offices and banks. Of course, we will visit one with you and help you exchanging your money, if you want us to.

Climate And Clothing

Most parts of Mongolia are about 1000 to 3000 m above sea level and temperatures can change during the day. The climate is mainly continental. So even if you visit Mongolia in summer and it’s hot during the day, in the night it’s going to be cold or even freezing. Don’t forget warm and robust clothing and something against rain! Temperatures in summer are mostly in between 5°C and 30°C.
