This journey invites you to visit some of the most interesting and beautiful places around the country. Far off western civilisation you will explore endless and quiet steppes, impressive mountain ranges with extinct volcanoes and beautiful lakes, untouched taiga forests around the cystal clear Khuvsgul lake as well as the unique culture, religion and tradition of nomad life.
Technically, this tour ends after 3 weeks, but you can always extend it, for example, by another tour like the tour to the Centre of Spiritual Energy.
Day 1/ 2. Flight and arrival at the international airport „Chinggis Khan“ in Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to hotel. Breakfast and break until lunch. We will then visit Gandan monastery, with its 26 m high and gilded Buddha statue nowadays being the biggest and most important monastery in Mongolia. Then, we will go to ‘Zaisan’ hill, which offers a beautiful view over Ulaanbaatar. Dinner, overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3. Flight to Moron, provincial capital of Khuvsgul Aimak. Drive to Khuvsul Lake, Mongolias biggest lake. Overnight stay at a yurt camp at the side of the lake.
Day 4-8. Now we relax. On occasion we visit a reindeer or yak breeder. You can ride on horseback, hike, go swimming or just have a walk at the lake. Overnight stay in tent.
Day 9. Today we return to the yurt camp at the lake. We prepare our next days.
Day 10. Today, we drive to Galt region to visit a nomad family, situated in a beautiful valley with a small river and hill chains all around us. Overnight stay in tent.
Day 11- 13. We stay with the nomads. You can spend the days as you wish – go hiking, stroll around, watch the sun rise and set or take part actively in nomad life: help with milking the cows, ride on horseback, care for the sheep and goats. Overnight stay in tent.
Day 14. We travel to our next destination: Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, on of the most beautiful lakes of Mongolia. Overnight stay at the Eco-Camp.
Day 15. Hike around the volcanic crater Khorgo. You can explore several lava tubes and caves. Overnight stay at the Eco-Camp.
Day 16. We travel to the hot sources of Tsenkher. There we will relax in the hot, sulfurous mineral water of the Tsenkher sources. Overnight stay at a yurt camp.
Day 17/18. Our journey leads to Karakorum, former capital of the Mongolian Empire. In the afternoon, we visit Erdene Zuu monastery, the oldest buddhistic monastery in todays Mongolia. Built in 1568 out of the ruins of destroyed Karakorum, it was the first lamaistic monastery in Mongolia. If the weather is nice, we can go on a refreshing trip to Orkhon river. Overnight stay at a yurt camp.
Day 19. Today, we drive to Khustai Nuruu national reserve, where since a few years a project for the reintroduction of Przewalski horses, the native horse breed of Mongolia, takes place successfully. If we’re lucky, we will be able to watch these horses which have almost been extinct on our last evening in the Mongolian wilderness.
Day 20. In the real early morning we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar. We stroll around town and do some shopping in the afternoon. Then there’s dinner and Mongolian traditional dance and music.
Day 21. Breakfast, transfer to the airport, flight.
Extention of the journey: Visit at the Centre of Spiritual Energy
Day 21. 10 hour train ride to Khamriin Khiid. This monastery is worshipped as pilgrim site and centre of spiritual energy. Overnight stay at a yurt camp.
Day 22. Our day starts before sun rise. You have the possibility to refuel with energy: on todays programme are a visit of Uvgun Monastery, Shambala centre of spiritual energy and different meditation caves. Over night, train ride back to Ulaanbaatar.
Day 23. After our arrival in Ulaanbaatar, you can spend the day at your wishes. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 24. Breakfast, transfer to the airport, flight.
